Ben Moorad has helped over 80 local and regional nonprofits improve their communities and create a more equitable world. He’s performed in-depth assessments for organizations ranging from startup to established nonprofits to school districts and libraries, and he’s led six organizations through the process of recruiting and selecting their new Executive Directors.
Ben started his nonprofit career in1998, when he co-founded the local nonprofit Write Around Portland, which uses networks of free creative writing workshops to decrease social isolation and transform people’s lives. At Write Around Portland, he co-developed a model of facilitation based on anti-oppression and free expression, and he led over 100volunteers through a 27-hour training in its principles. Ben is also the Co-Founder of Pass the Mic, a free music education program for immigrant and refugee youth.
As a member of the Executive TransitionServices (ETS) team for seven years, Ben served as Interim Executive Director for five local nonprofits undergoing significant transition. From 2012 to 2014, he served as the InterimDirector of ETS, supervising and supporting 24 highly skilled consultants providing interim leadership, fundraising consulting, organizational development work, executive search services and strategic planning to hundreds of nonprofits.
Ben is also a writer and performer and is a Fellow of The MacDowell Colony.
